Strategies for Supporting Faculty Writers through Programs and Resources
This online hands-on workshop addresses the unique challenges faculty developers face when supporting scholarly writing in resource-constrained environments where teaching often takes priority. Participants will explore creative, low-cost approaches to building sustainable writing programs, including “conversations about writing” groups, guided writing retreats using existing campus spaces, virtual accountability sessions, and leveraging free digital tools for feedback and collaboration. This workshop revisits traditional practices such as writing retreats and accountability structures and offers a redesign using best practices from writing studies to increase faculty engagement and output. Through collaborative planning sessions and ready-to-adapt templates, attendees will develop concrete strategies tailored to their institutional contexts and leave with a flexible programming calendar for Spring 2026, Summer 2026, and the 2026-2027 academic year that can be implemented immediately without significant budget increases. Whether you’re working with minimal funding, competing priorities, or limited staff support, this workshop will equip you with practical, evidence-based solutions to create meaningful writing support for faculty while maximizing existing resources and building on the strengths already present at your institution.
